Chris,

Wow, thanks for stopping in to leave a comment. I really look forward to meeting you; hopefully another time at another event (Maybe at The SF New Tech Meetup Tomorrow?) I should really introduce myself on the Social Media Club list, huh!

JP,

THANKS for stopping by! Your paper on Competitive Intelligence was excellent (Here is the link for those who have not read it: Using Competitive Search Intelligence to Drive Online Success.

You know, since I've been working at an agency that does design, builds CMS systems as well as implements online marketing strategy, I'm really starting to see more and more why it is important to start with the strategy and build out from there... as opposed to retrofitting.

... the problem with strategy as it applies to SEO is the perception that SEO is simply a "thing" that you do to a site (especially if you are Did-It's David Pasternack) and not the "process" of making a site accessible to search engines as well as an essential process to the online promotion of a site outside of Search Engines (if you have a good SEO)that it is. So clients ask for tactical SEO when what they really need is strategic SEO.

I've often said that SEOs need to move more into Biz Dev as they really understand the online market... but that won't happen until outside perceptions change. I could go on... but work calls. Thanks for stopping by... and if ya ever start a blog, drop me a line...or if you start writing SEL as I suggested on Garrett's blog, all the better :)

Truly,

That's one of the trickier things to do with SEM/ SEO. I couldnt agree with you more. You gotta create a strategic level plan that includes overall goals, marketing message, niche exploitation through careful keyword strategy analysis and mixing brand with keywords...

Then you need to plan the tactical strategy which is determined by more quantitative factors like searches per day, stemming and micro-messages (marketing messages that are not the overall message, but support the overall message).

I just found your blog from Garrett's blog... I have a lot of reading to catch up on, great blog!

Hey Natasha,

Following up your message, I may stop by for this. It depends on the work load today (that and how much effort I want to put in for my costume).

Hope to see you there (you too Karl).
